What an interesting mix of naiivete and the art of the con! Though I was never a Ronald Reagan fan, Nancy the right advice for us illustrators out there: “Just say No!”

I love the one where the guy says. “This is an opportunity”: nothing makes creatives madder than people saying, “This is quite an opportunity for you!”

Too funny! But missing the magic word – Exposure. Non-creatives believe that artists will give away expensive inventory or services when they utter the magic word to them.

LOL How many times have you hear that? “This will be GREAT exposure for you?”

It’s only funny because it’s true. Ah yes, the golden “Exposure” or the ever popular tone of righteous indignation “Hey, I’m doing you a favor.” It’s a beautiful video.

“Show us how you did it, and we’re going to do it on our own in house.” HA! That resonated with me. Everything’s negotiable. . .

That video is great! It is such an insult to expect freebies for “exposure,” but I fell for that as a newbie too. Now, I have a knee-jerk reaction to warn other artists about the perils of haggling and working on speculation.

You know how you get exposure? Show your work on your own You Tube channel. More people watch You Tube than watch network TV. On MY You Tube Channel, The Affluent Artist, I have two modules about when to work for free.
