In the Affluent Artist, I suggested that all Michelangelo needed was the internet, that the Medici, his patrons, were his only alternative to poverty. I wondered how many other talented artists throughout the years have never been discovered, how many giants never saw the light of day. So, every once in a while, as I meet more artists, I’d like to point them out in this space and have you look at their work. I think the internet gives artists, musicians and writers an opportunity to experience a New Renaissance and doesn’t that sound like loads of fun?
Dave Thatcher has the voice of God, or at least Moses. A professional radio announcer for 45 years in Connecticut, he actually has a fine arts degree from the University of Hartford. Radio, his “real job” has funded his love of painting and drawing portraits and still life. His studio is in a Civil War Era cannon factor in Mill Park Connecticut. His work in acrylics and charcoal communicate Dave’s passion for his work and his understanding of the emotions behind the faces he portrays. His work can be seen at: http://thatcherspaintings.tripod.com/paintingsbydavethatcher/index.html.
Judy Rey Wasserman’s goal is nothing less than getting you to change the way you see the world. On Good Morning America this morning, an alert Artist told me about a site featured called: www.ETSY.com. This site serves as a marketplace to sell all things handmade, “Hello Creative People!” Can you imagine the power of having the entire world see your work? Sure beats having to go on the Lakeside Art Show circuit, doesn’t it?
As a community, I think creative people need to support each other and I’ll be delighted to spotlight our work in a future posting!
